Cooke Latham Gallery are thrilled to announce that 'Gauntlet with Pearl Necklace' by Serena Korda has been acquired by The Arts Council Collection.
Korda's recent work explores a fantastical world inspired by Greek mythology, featuring a larger-than-life protagonist reminiscent of the Greek siren Parthenope. The Giantess’ oceanic necklace 'And She Cried Me a River' (2021) was showcased in 'A Matter of Life and Death' at Thomas Dane Gallery in Naples, and The Hayward Gallery ‘Strange Clay: Ceramics in Contemporary Art’
In 'The Maidens' Korda expands upon the world of this imagined giantess, building her a spectral female entourage inspired by Penelope’s twelve handmaidens in the Odyssey. Through a feminist lens, she elevates these peripheral characters, shedding light on their untold stories and ultimate sacrifices.
